The Italian Christmas Liqueur You Have to Start Now


Buon Domenica,

Nocino is the winter version of Limoncello β€” you start it in June and drink it at Christmas.

It is made from green walnuts harvested around San Giovanni, the 24th of June, a tradition so specific it has its own date on the calendar.

You cannot buy them in a shop, so you need a walnut tree and you need to pick them before the shell hardens and the season is gone.
