Italian Sunday Traditions and Winter Recipes You’ll Love 🍝🍎✨

Ciao amici! What a week it’s been over on social media! I wanted to share a quick recap in case you missed anything—this week’s theme was all about Italian traditions and seasonal recipes.

1. Italian Sunday Dinner: Myth vs Reality 🇮🇹
Did you know that the real Italian Sunday tradition is all about "il pranzo della domenica"—a long, leisurely lunch, not dinner and Sunday sauce?

It’s a feast that starts with a primo (pasta or risotto), followed by a secondo (a meat dish), contorni (sides), and of course, dolce (dessert).

The real star, though?

Pasticcini—those delicious little pastries we pick up from the local pasticceria after Mass.

Growing up in Rome, Pasticceria Antonini in via Sabotino (in the Vatican neighbourhood Prati) was my go-to spot! Try it next time you are in Rome.

2. Apple Caponata: A Winter Twist on a Sicilian Classic 🍎
This week, I also shared a unique Sicilian recipe Apple Caponata, a winter-friendly version of the traditional dish.

It’s sweet, sour, and perfect for this time of year when eggplants aren’t in season.

Crisp apples replace the eggplants, creating a dish that’s both refreshing and comforting.

Whether you serve it as a side dish, an appetizer, or pair it with roasted meats, it’s sure to impress!

3. Chiacchiere: Carnival Treats with Ancient Roots 🎭
As we gear up for Carnevale, I couldn’t resist sharing the recipe for Chiacchiere—those delicate, crispy fried cookies that date back to the Roman Empire.

Whether you fry them or bake them, these festive treats are perfect to make in big batches to last throughout the celebrations.

What was your favorite part of this week’s content?

Let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your creations if you try any of these recipes!

Grazie mille for being part of this delicious journey.
